That’s right, THE WIND!
Oh God, winds gust of 30 to 50 mph this morning wreaking havoc on my morning commute. It never ceases to amaze me the power of the wind. Anyone that is skeptical of wind energy as an effective form of providing energy only needs to take a short bike ride on a day like today.
Today was an odd wind day because of the enormous gusts that kept coming at me from every direction. I’ve come to accept wind as a daily battle that I’ve learned to deal with but those are your run of the mill steady winds. Sure they suck and make each peddle stroke painful but they don’t actually make me think I’m going to die.
After the forecast for snow last night, I was fully prepared for the freezing temps and possible rain/snow mix. At this point, that’s old hat and doesn’t even phase me(that is a blatant lie, it still sucks). I’ve got the clothing, equipment and plan in place to handle it.
The gusting winds had me a little nervous because nothing is more dangerous on the road than sudden dramatic moves in traffic. The fact of the matter is that 225 lbs of person riding a bike acts as a pretty big SAIL! I had to use all my skill and some help from lady luck to stay upright and not laid out in the middle of the road or sidewalk.
I was riding like I had been crushing Jack & Cokes all morning, hadn’t slept in 3 days and had an inner ear imbalance. It was crazy and I have to apologize to all the drivers on my route this mornings. In case any of them were wondering, yes, that was my bad but that wasn’t me swerving but literally being thrown a few feet by the wind.

Okay, that is just ridiculous! I would not have been able to make it through that…would’ve been thrown into the ditch and probably would have stayed there all day, terrified and crying over the incident. 😉
