Pegged Pants, Skinny Jeans and AC Slater

I may have missed the boat when “pegged pants” where in style.  I can vaguely remember my older sister spending what seemed like hours making sure her pants were pegged just right and I never quite got it.

By the time I was old enough for fashion necessities(like pegging my pants) it had fallen way out of vogue and I was in the midst of the baggy, 200″ opening pant leg fashion phase.  Admittedly, I didn’t get this one either.  They both seemed like a lot of work for very little reward.

Well, we now live in the time of the “skinny jean” that does not require pegging and would be well served to incorporate a bit of the “baggy” trend.  Needless to say, I’m not a “skinny jeans” guy.  Like Jay-Z says “my knots don’t fit”.

What does this all have to do with pegged pants today?  Simple, I own a very limited number of “good” socks.  Therefore, tucking my pant leg into my sock is highly ineffective and doesn’t matter when I don’t wear socks altogether.  I’ve been forced to resort to pegging my pants as a purely functional solution and I like it!

Yeah, I said it!  I like pegging my pants.  When I ride, it’s like having capri-pants on without the embarrassment and ridicule of wearing Capri pants.  I get a nice breeze and it keeps my cuffs from getting splattered if I hit a few small puddles. I also feel a bit like a hipster with skinny jeans on without having to hate myself for being a hipster or wearing skinny jeans that suck(aforementioned “knots” issue).

Long story, longer; what was once a fashion mystery to me as a boy has come full circle to serve a fantastic functional purpose that I can be proud of as a man!

Based on this timeline, some various of the AC Slater weird wasted jeans should be coming back into fashion in the next 5 years.  Awesome!
