The World is Melting…..How do I “beat the heat”?

The world may not be melting but from watching the weather this morning, if I go outside in Massachusetts today I should be ready to walk on the surface of the sun.  Now this puts me in a bit of a pickle as I need to go outside for a minimum of 45 minutes just to get from point A to point B.

I made it through my first walk on the sun’s surface today I assume because it was at 515 and the heat had yet to reach epic proportions.  The big challenge comes this afternoon when the day is at its hottest and I have to take the train for 90 minutes, bike for 15 then walk at least another 20 minutes to a networking event.  I don’t know about you, but nothing gets me jacked up for meeting people and networking like profusely sweating for nearly 3 straight hours.  It seems too early to take up residence in “negative town” but I just don’t see how this is going to go well for me today.  So far the news’ tips on how to “beat the heat” don’t really apply to living CarFree!

I can’t exactly “stay indoors” or “avoid outdoor activity during peak hours”.  The only thing I can think of is to launch a full-scale “slow down” of my entire life today.  Luckily, my office in Boston has super A/C and will probably be 50 degrees so I can work at normal speed but everything else is going to be done s-u-p-e-r s-l-ow!

I’m talking about one step in the time I would normally take 5, if my average bike speed is 12 mph, I’ll be topping out at 4 mph!  Note to everyone I have afternoon and evening appointments with, I may be late.

So that’s all I’ve got to “beat the heat” but I’m wide open to suggestions for better ideas.
